Welcome from Principal

Welcome to St. Mel Catholic School! We are a school rich in tradition, Catholic identity, and academic excellence. On our website, you will learn what makes our school an excellent educational choice for your children.

St. Mel School was founded in 1959 by the Sisters of Mercy who had a vision where children are educated in heart and mind, formed to be men and women of faith, of learning, of virtue, and of service to others. It is the vision that lives on today! As you walk through the school doors, you find yourself surrounded by a feeling of friendliness, dedication, cooperation, and most importantly, a sense of family. Our students appreciate our proud history as well as the sense of community that supports them as they are challenged to develop all their talents - academic, spiritual, physical, artistic and athletic. Our commitment to the development of the whole child includes differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of all students. The achievements, attitudes, accomplishments and well-being of our children matter to us, and so do their families.

The core curriculum is academically challenging and is designed to help students prepare for rigorous high school pursuits. Beyond the classroom, students at St. Mel are offered many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including athletics, academic competitions, art exploration program, choir, drama, baton, STREAM week, Student Council, and special events occurring throughout the school year. Our students thrive on academic challenges, guided by our dedicated faculty and staff, while surrounded by their peers, and supported by daily prayers. Our Student Learning Expectations (SLE’s), support children to become life-long learners, the development of self, and care for others.

Above all, a Catholic faith identity is at the heart of St. Mel Catholic School. This is what sets us apart from other schools and draws us together as a community. Our students are afforded the luxury of having the religion curriculum woven into their daily school experience, opportunities to celebrate the sacraments, and participate in community service projects. I invite you to attend the second Sunday School Morning Mass at 9:30 a.m., and you’ll see St. Mel Catholic School students getting a head start on leadership as they serve as lectors, greeters, altar servers and sing in the children’s choir. Faith provides an anchor whose value can never be overestimated. It provides a compass and a touchstone that will serve your children well into the future. St. Mel parents value a Catholic education and are committed to making the sacrifices to ensure their children receive a faith-based education. They have a willingness to give of their time, energy, and talents to assist the faculty in their children’s educational journey.

Our six-acre campus is completely gated providing security and safety for our students. Our school campus includes classrooms for grades TK – 8 including our before/after school program, science lab, resource center, technology lab, gym, cafeteria, grassy playing fields, a community garden, basketball courts, and play structures.

I have been blessed to be Principal of St. Mel School since 1990. My belief that faith and a strong parent-teacher-student partnership will empower the students of St. Mel School to become tomorrow’s leaders who are compassionate, confident, and articulate.
